Traveling to Iskut is done typically by flying into Terrace or Smithers British Columbia, ed then driving through beautiful territory, pills past pristine Provincial Recreation and Wilderness Parks, no rx to your final destination approximately 500km north.
If you are planning on flying into Terrace or Smithers and then driving north, it is recommended reserving a vehicle early and ensuring it is appropriately equipped for northern weather driving conditions (for example, during winter months ensure the vehicle has winter/studded tires). It is also recommended having a vehicle emergency kit on-hand in case of a breakdown.
It is also important to note the vehicle’s fuel capacity and plan fuel stops accordingly. From Terrace and Smithers you’ll begin heading north (Yellowhead Hwy E from Terrace and Yellowhead Hwy W from Smithers) – your first recommended fueling station is at the Petro-Canada in Kitwanga at the junction of the Yellowhead Hwy and Dease Lake Hwy (Stewart-Cassier Hwy/BC-37 N). After fueling here, head north on the Dease Lake Hwy (Stewart-Cassier Hwy/BC-37 N). Your next fueling station is located 245 km north on the Dease Lake Hwy at the Bell 2 Lodge – here you can also grab a coffee or bite to eat at the lodge.
