The Class 1 Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) Program is a requirement for drivers applying for a Class 1 Driver’s License.

B.C.’s comprehensive MELT program became mandatory for all new Class 1 applicants on October 18, 2021. This 140-hour course aligns with the national Class 1 entry-level training standard introduced as part of the National Safety Code. Training includes:

  • Theory learning

  • Practical training at driving school

  • On-highway driving

  • Learning about the operation of air brakes

âś… Admission Requirements

  • Ages 19+

  • Good physical condition

  • Driver’s Abstract

  • VALID Proof of Ancestry (cannot be expired)

  • VALID Class 5 Driver’s License

  • Complete TRICORP Application Package

  • Proof of Living Allowance for the duration of the program

  • Willingness to commit to program schedule
