On March 6, 2026, the Iskut Band formally signed a three-year hockey agreement with Newmont Red Chris Mine at Chief Louis Arena — an initiative that reflects our community’s commitment to youth, wellness, and strong partnerships.
Hockey has always been more than just a game in our Tahltan communities. It brings families together, supports healthy and active lifestyles, and creates opportunities for our youth to build confidence, teamwork, and pride in their community. Ensuring that our young people have access to safe and welcoming spaces like Chief Louis Arena remains a priority for Iskut leadership.
Through this agreement, Newmont Red Chris Mine will contribute $150,000 over three years in community support, along with an additional $75,000 to support arena rental. These contributions will help ensure that Chief Louis Arena continues to be an active and welcoming gathering place for the Iskut community.
During the signing ceremony, Iskut Band Deputy Chief Feddie Louie, Tahltan Central Government President Kerry Carlick, and Iskut Band representative Jeneane Tashoots spoke about the importance of this initiative and the positive impact it will have on youth in the community. They also shared their appreciation for Newmont and Red Chris Mine as valued partners working alongside Iskut to support opportunities for our people.
The Iskut Band thanks everyone who helped bring this agreement together. We look forward to seeing our youth, families, and community members continue to come together at Chief Louis Arena for many great seasons of hockey ahead. ❤️
